As your therapist, we will first establish rapport and explore our therapeutic fit for working together, develop your therapy goals, and assess whether you are an appropriate candidate for KAP, and that you are adequately prepared for psychedelic work. This phase of treatment is the preparation phase and the number of sessions varies according to your needs.
Most clients will then have between one and three psychedelic sessions, and you and your therapist determine the timing of these as appropriate. Your therapist will stay with you during these sessions. If you have your session at a ketamine clinic, a trained physician/medical provider will also be medically monitoring you throughout the 40-60 minute period that the medication is taking effect. KAP sessions with your therapist present may last 2-3 hours including the medicine session, processing, and recovery from the medicine. You will need a driver to escort you home after the session and it is recommended that you not drive yourself for at least four hours after the ketamine medicine session.
After each ketamine session, you will have follow-up sessions with your therapist to discuss your experience. This part of treatment is called integration and helps you understand how to use your experience with ketamine to move forward with your overall therapy goals.
